I always am trying to organize my room. But the problem I come across is that I never have anywhere to put anything. It's hard to put something away if there is nowhere it can go!
The other day I was on Pinterest looking for some new ways to get organized, and I came across what I think is perhaps the best idea I've seen in weeks. All you have to do is take empty bottles and give them a colored stain. And there you have it - adorable storage.
So here's what you'll need:
- Wax Paper
- Mod Podge
- Baby Oil
- Empty Jars
- Food Coloring
- Baking Pan
- Dixie Cups
First thing you're going to do is take off all of the labels from the jars. I've used many products to try and remove the residue left from the glue, and I always find that rubbing baby oil on it will help remove it the most effectively. But be sure that you succesfully remove all of the oil so that it doesn't effect the paint. I reccomend soaking it in hot water, drying it and leaving it on the countertop until it is completely dry.
Next, take your dixie cup and fill it 3/4 of the way with the Mod Podge. Add any color of food coloring to the mix. For a more intense color, add more drops of food coloring. I like a slight color so I prefer adding 2 drops. Stir until well blended
Now, poor in the mixture into one of glass jars and spin the jar around both smoothly and gently, making sure the entire jar is covered with the colored mixture.
Get the wax paper and cover your backing pan with it. Set the jars on the paper upside down, allowing the extra Mod Podge to drip down. Leave the jars this way for an hour.
Once the hour has passed, replace the wax paper with a new piece and place the jars on it right side up. Place the pan of jars into the over and "bake" them for 45 minutes at 225 degrees.
And there you have it! You can add whatever you'd like. For mine, I filled each one with either cotton balls, paperclips, pens or flowers.
